7 Day Online Retreat – Shamatha & The Four Immeasurables

7 Days to Soothe the Body, Calm the Mind, and Open the Heart

Mon 18th August – Sunday 24th August

About the retreat

Join us for an online one-week Buddhist meditation retreat

During this online meditation retreat, led by Buddhist meditation teacher, David Oromith, and accredited yoga teacher, Manu Oromith, we will explore methods for calming the mind through shamatha, and opening the heart through the Four Immeasurables.

During the sessions with David, we will explore the practice and theory of shamatha meditation. Through shamatha meditation, we train our attention skills and improve our focus and concentration. These practices allow us to unwind, let go of stress and worry, and cultivate mental and emotional balance.

The ultimate purpose of shamatha meditation is to achieve advanced states of samadhi, or meditative concentration, where one is able to focus unwavering attention on a single object. The Buddha strongly emphasised the importance of achieving shamatha in order to achieve personal liberation. Shamatha is, therefore, an indispensable practice for those seeking awakening.

This exploration into shamatha will be complemented and interspersed with practices of the heart, namely the Four Immeasurables, loving-kindness, compassion, empathetic joy and equanimity.

Sessions with Manu will complement our practice, as Manu shares gentle asanas from the yogic traditions which deepen our tranquillity and enhance our connection with the body. The soothing and healing yoga sessions also help to improve physical flexibility, strength and resistance.

This retreat is also taking place in person, in Mid Wales. If you’d like to join us in person instead, up-to-date availability can be found here

"I cannot recommend Samadhi highly enough. I participated in a 4 day silent retreat in Wales and I am so glad that I did.

David...ah, David. He's a wonderful instructor who took us on a multi-day meditative journey deeper into our minds, helping us understand ourselves in new ways that were revealing and empowering.

I told a few people that the silence was challenge, but it was the meditation that was the tough part. Not because it wasn't enjoyable...it was, but because I felt like I spent all of that time with a personal mental trainer who gave me an amazing workout and showing me how to keep myself in better shape.

And Manu's yoga was a powerful way to start and end each day. It was just the right amount, particularly for someone who is not a regular practitioner.

I so enjoyed the other attendees. After all, they are a self-selecting group of people on a similar path, but what was particularly powerful was how we formed bonds with each other over 3 days without actually speaking with each other.

Whether you do a silent retreat or a non-silent one, don't hesitate. Sign up with Samadhi. You can thank me later."

What to Expect From an Online Retreat Experience

From the comfort of your own home

You can engage with this course in whatever way suits you most. This can mean setting aside the week to follow along live and make it a full retreat in your own space, or following the recordings at your own pace, or anything in between. You can have periods of silence (as the in-person group will do until 6:30pm each day), or you can continue with other activities as you need to.

How does it work to join live?

It’s really important to us that you feel a part of the retreat and connected with both the teachings and what is happening online and offline.

We arrange the tech in such a way as to mean you can both see and hear the teacher, but also the participants in the room, meaning that you don’t miss out on any questions or discussions that take place. You’re also able to ask questions, and the teacher and the room are able to see and hear you, as if you were there in person.

During the evenings, there will also be an opportunity for the online attendees to come together to share, discuss and reflect on the day’s activities as a group. There will also be an optional WhatsApp group – an opportunity to keep connected and chat with others.

Feedback from participants last year was wonderful; they really felt a part of the retreat and that it was no different doing it from the comfort of their own home. They formed some very supportive relationships with other online attendees, which continued long after the retreat ended.

We invite you to come along and be a part of this programme.

Unable to Join Live?

If you’re unable to follow live, video recordings are uploaded (unedited) within a few hours of the live session happening. Higher quality recordings are uploaded after the retreat. The recordings will remain on the website indefinitely, so you can revisit the teachings and practices again and again.
