Community Meditation & Chat

Join us on Thursdays for our Community Meditations & Chats.

These sessions, hosted by trustees & members of our community, are an opportunity to come together and discuss different elements of the teachings and meditations with a small group of like-minded friends in a more informal setting. Everyone is welcome, whether you’re a regular attendee of Samadhi’s events or a newcomer.

Each session will be different, but you can expect to listen to a meditation together (such as those from The Samadhi Podcast), and then have an informal group discussion on the chosen topic of the week.

"A good teacher is important, but sisters and brothers in the practice are the main ingredient for success. You cannot achieve enlightenment by locking yourself in your room.

If you have a supportive sangha, it’s easy to nourish your bodhicitta, the seeds of enlightenment. If you don’t have anyone who understands you, who encourages you in the practice of the living dharma, your desire to practice may wither. Your sangha—family, friends, and co-practitioners—is the soil, and you are the seed. No matter how vigorous the seed is, if the soil does not provide nourishment, your seed will die. A good sangha is crucial for the practice. Please find a good sangha or help create one.

Taking refuge in the sangha means putting your trust in a community of solid members who practice mindfulness together. You do not have to practice intensively—just being in a sangha where people are happy, living deeply the moments of their days, is enough."
- Thich Nhat Hanh

Everybody is welcome to join these sessions. They are not recorded to protect the privacy of our community.

The sessions are hosted through Google Meet (so that we can all see & chat to each other after the meditation).

david

David is an experienced Buddhist contemplative and meditation guide who has studied and taught internationally for several years. He is the Co-Founder of Samadhi and a qualified mindfulness teacher, Mental Health First Aider, and an active member of the Association for Spiritual Integrity. His teaching style is clear and practical, and his warm and humorous approach makes him a popular mindfulness teacher. In his own practise and teachings, David focusses on the core themes of Early Buddhism and emphasises the practices of Shamatha (meditative quiescence), and its union with Vipassana on the Four Applications of Mindfulness and the Four Immeasurables – which presents a direct path leading to the realisation of our deepest nature and the potentials of consciousness, and closely follows how the Buddha himself attained enlightenment. He considers himself to be the fortunate student of many teachers, including his root lama, Lama Alan Wallace.
