A seven-week online course on Wednesdays, 4 November to 16 December, 10 to 11am
For the next seven weeks we return to the elements.
We begin by embracing the energy of autumn through the Metal element and the Tiger. The Tiger is strong but flexible, able to be both focused and relaxed. We will also bring in some forms and flows from the Water element, the element of winter.
With Metal, the focus is on supporting the respiratory system and its relationship with the immune system: the yin and yang of our breath. With Water, we begin to explore the nervous system. Water tends to take us to a more meditative, internal place, deep and flowing, light but grounded.
Qi Gong is a gentle mind-body discipline with roots in the distant past. Relatively simple to learn, it is a gentle form of exercise for better health, rejuvenation and regeneration, and is sometimes called Taoist yoga.
In a hectic modern world it can be very difficult to find space to truly rest, relax and restore. Qi Gong needs no special equipment and is suitable for anyone, whatever their age, fitness or health. It is simply you giving yourself the gift of a little time, with some mindful intention and a willingness to explore.
Every session is recorded, so you can catch up at your own pace if you miss a week.
Please book in advance using the form at the bottom of this page.
We are embracing a sliding scale policy for this event, guided by the Buddhist principle of generosity and inclusivity. There are suggested donations to help cover the cost of running these classes, including an offering to Dan for his time. Choosing the higher option includes a donation to support our activities for the benefit of all.
We firmly believe, however, that financial constraints should never be a barrier to participation. If the suggested amount is beyond your means, please choose the lower option or contribute what you can via contacting us to help with your booking. Every offering helps make these classes possible for the collective good. Without your honesty and generosity, we wouldn’t be able to make these sessions happen!
7-session series
This is a 7-session series (4 November & 11 November & 18 November & 25 November & 2 December & 9 December & 16 December). One booking covers the whole series, live sessions and recordings.
Dan Brierley, Chi Kung Teacher
Daniel Brierley is a Cranio-Sacral Therapist, a Shiatsu Practitioner and served as the former Principal Tutor of the London College of Elemental Chi Kung for 14 years. He has been practising for over 30 years, and has taught workshops and courses across the UK, in India, New Zealand, Australia, Morocco and many European countries for over 15 years.
"I have been practising Chi Kung for nearly 30 years and teaching for over 15. It has been a constant in my journey. In that time I have also trained in various therapies and studied other forms of exercise and movement. It seems like the theme of my life to this point has been a journey towards healing, on all levels physical, mental and emotional. A journey without beginning or end. With many twists and turns along the way.
As a teacher my main goal is to empower people by giving them a tool that will support development and growth throughout their life. The question I continually ask myself is what is Chi Kung? It seems so vast and so simple, it's hard to touch the edges. For me it is much more than just a form of movement for health. I think that Chi Kung has been placed inside a box that can’t contain it, and it's struggling to break free from misunderstanding and misrepresentation. Chi Kung is a multi dimensional tool and it comprises form, flows, stretches, breathing techniques, meditation and philosophy.
The reason why I decided to call my system Conscious Movement Chi Kung is because I want to feel free to explore the movement, breath and forms without feeling restricted to a one dimensional limited expression of the art."

I have completed four consecutive Chi Kung courses with Dan Brierley over the last 9 months. I enjoyed every moment of the classes because Dan is a highly experienced and knowledgeable Chi Kung teacher who teaches with joy and passion. I was an absolute beginner when I joined Dan's class but Dan's ability to break down complex looking movements into simple steps put me at ease and the videos are great to keep practising between classes. There are so many things I enjoy about the courses: The movements and the focus on breathing, awareness and mindfulness, and not to forget Dan's vast knowledge of Chi Kung theory and its impact on the body. What is different after four courses? I have established a daily Chi Kung routine, I feel more energetic, my lower back pain is gone and I might even be more mindful than before.

I have been enjoying Dan's Qi Gong classes for about a year now; sometimes with the livestream, sometimes via the recording. I was a complete beginner so am still feeling my way into the practices and theory but have never felt out of my depth or uncomfortable (even when my crane form morphs into hippo!) as Dan's teaching is consistently informative whilst encouraging of finding our own way into the practices. I find that the structure and pace of Dan's sessions help my beginning understandings, always with theory woven into his explanations and extra help when he can see that some of us have struggled in some way to follow a form. Dan has a gentle attentive teaching style, and his long experience of Qi Gong is evident in the ease, enthusiasm and presence with which he delivers each session.
