Dreaming of Reality: Sleeping, Dreaming & Dying in Tibetan Buddhism

D6S2 - The Grand Finale of Shamatha

Lama Alan · 62 minutes · recorded January 1, 2019

A review fires Descartes, materialism and the Buddhist schools in turn on the way to Madhyamaka, before Lama Alan Wallace turns to what he calls the grand finale of shamatha without a sign. He guides awareness cast upward, to each side and downward through the space of awareness, then down into the heart, then released whole into space. Padmasambhava's text gives the indications of flawless shamatha, an oil lamp unmoved by wind, and warns against being introduced to pristine awareness too soon.

Death and dying Dreams and sleep Sleep and rest The nature of mind Shamatha (calm abiding)
