Four Kinds of Intelligence for Optimal Mental Health and Balance

D1S4 - Mindfulness as Remembering, and Introspection as Quality Control

Lama Alan · 76 minutes

The session opens with a twenty four minute guided practice in which we take the three qualities in order: whole body awareness for relaxation, the abdomen for stability, the nostrils for vividness. The word rendered as mindfulness means to recollect, and Lama Alan draws out three types: retrospective, recalling the instructions; present-centred, bearing the breath in mind; and prospective, knowing what to do when attention strays. Alongside it runs introspection, quality control that catches laxity and excitation.
