Meditation, Stability, Clarity: Experiencing the Liberating Power of Full Attention

D1S3 - Three Breathing Methods and the Ground of Becoming

Lama Alan · 167 minutes · recorded June 5, 2025

Lama Alan teaches three ways of following the breath, each with its own guided practice: full body awareness from Asanga, abdomen breathing from the Burmese tradition, and the classic Theravada focus at the nostrils with counting. He distinguishes mindfulness from introspection, the faculty that catches laxity and excitation, and describes the ground of becoming, the substrate the mind dissolves into in sleep and at death, reachable through shamatha.
