Meditation, Stability, Clarity: Experiencing the Liberating Power of Full Attention

D5S3 - The Oscillation, and Not Rushing Pristine Awareness

Lama Alan · 142 minutes · recorded June 5, 2025

Lama Alan guides an oscillation practice, concentrating awareness and releasing it, then turns to Padmasambhava's instructions for directing awareness to the sky, either side, below, and the heart, without anything to visualize. He warns against being introduced to pristine awareness before genuine stillness arises, since it then becomes only a memory to be dogmatic about. A closing exercise on listening for a distant sound shows how attention can reach outward with no image at all.
