The Eight Worldly Concerns: Overcoming the Obstacles to Genuine Happiness

Week One - Introduction and Gain & Loss

David Oromith · 86 minutes · recorded September 22, 2026

A body and breath meditation opens this first session. David introduces the eight worldly concerns through the Buddha's Lokavipatti Sutta: they arise for everyone, and what differs is whether we see them as inconstant and subject to change. On gain and loss, he explains why attachment comes with fear, and why the stuff is not the problem but our relationship with it. It closes by reflecting on a gain and a loss in our lives, and on equanimity as being steady in the middle of a seesaw.
