Dzogchen Retreat - The Foolish Dharma of an Idiot Clothed in Mud and Feathers by Düdjom Lingpa

D6S4 - Finding the Basis of Designation for the Self

Lama Alan · 68 minutes · recorded June 12, 2025

Before returning to practice, Lama Alan explains why greater stability of attention supports deeper inquiry, comparing it to the way trained working memory has been shown to raise measured intelligence. The main teaching then works through Dudjom Lingpa's method of finding the basis on which we label something as I, using examples from a facial blemish to a house, a cup of tea and an electron, to show that nothing is ever identical with its label.
