The Illumination of Primordial Wisdom

D1S2 - Inner Solitude, and Three Ways Into Shamatha

Lama Alan · 109 minutes · recorded January 1, 2021

Solitude comes first: Lama Alan Wallace calls inner solitude, retreat from the eight mundane concerns, at least as important as the outer and far harder to achieve. He works through the seven qualities of Vairochana's posture, with Gyatrul Rinpoche's advice to find a posture comfortable for you, then the vital points of speech and mind. Three shamatha methods follow: resting unfabricated, imagining a ruby red HUM at the heart, or gazing at a stick or pebble. In the closing practice we try all three.
