The Inner Causes of Distress and Well-being: Insights from Buddhist Psychology
D1S2 - Tension, Agitation, Dullness, and Stillness Amid Turbulence
Lama Alan · 85 minutes · recorded January 1, 2019
The session opens with a twenty four minute guided practice in which we settle body, speech and mind in their natural states, taking the out-breath as the key and letting the breath run as it does in deep sleep. The teaching then takes three evident inner causes of distress: excessive tension, agitation and rumination, and dullness. Any one of them can be a principal cause, a sleeping pill that stops working was only treating the symptom, and stillness can be maintained in the midst of motion.
