Tibetan has no words for self-loathing or low self-esteem, and Lama Alan begins loving kindness where it is easiest, with yourself. Four questions follow: your own flourishing, what you would love to receive, how you would love to transform, and what to offer, each aroused with the breath and imagined as already so. Then the Buddha's three kinds of genuine well-being for the contemplative, from ethics, samadhi and wisdom, and free will as the ability to act in ways conducive to one's own and others' well-being.
