Bernard Carr
Professor of Mathematics and Astronomy
Bernard Carr is Professor of Mathematics and Astronomy at Queen Mary University of London. He read mathematics at Trinity College, Cambridge, and took his doctorate in relativity and cosmology under Stephen Hawking, later holding a Senior Research Fellowship at the Institute of Astronomy in Cambridge before moving to London in 1985. His research covers the early universe, dark matter, primordial black holes and the anthropic principle, and he has published more than two hundred scientific papers. Alongside that work he has a long standing interest in the meeting of science, philosophy and religion, and regards consciousness as a fundamental rather than incidental feature of the universe. He is a past president of the Society for Psychical Research and president of the Scientific and Medical Network.
