The Mirror-Like Mind and Five Obscurations

David Oromith · 33 minutes · recorded March 6, 2022

The practice is a full loving kindness meditation: we extend from ourself through someone loved, someone neutral and someone difficult, out to all beings. David talks about the mind as a mirror or a still pool, reflecting reality but tinted by whatever is mixed into it. He works through the five classical obscurations, desire as coloured water, ill will as boiling water, dullness as algae, agitation as ripples, and doubt as mud, each one clouding what we actually see.
