An open and frank discussion about journeying with low moods and depression - whether of diagnosed disorders or seasonal or life changes.

Join us for this morning event where David will weave together the various strands of his life – his personal lived experience of depression, caring for loved ones with depression, working in inpatient and community mental health, plus his journey of recovery, and helpful insights from Buddhism and meditation. The ups and downs. The good, the bad, and the ugly.

We will finish with a reading and sharing circle hosted by our very own Yangchen (Catriona) - a safe space to openly and honestly explore our own experiences, successes, and pitfalls.

We hope this event will provide a comforting, non-judgemental, and uplifting space for those who journey with depression to come together and feel held and heard.

The entire morning will be unrecorded and only open to those able to attend live. We may host similar sessions in future.

About the Hosts

David Oromith is a meditation guide and co-founder of Samadhi, with a background in mental health services. Having practised meditation since the age of 18, David’s personal struggle with depression and anxiety led to his exploration of Buddhist teachings and meditation. He combines insights from Tibetan Buddhism and modern psychology to offer practical techniques for well-being and emotional resilience.

He has taught meditation and mindfulness in corporate settings, workshops, and retreats across the UK and internationally, making ancient wisdom relevant and applicable in today’s fast-paced world. His clear and relatable teaching style, informed by his work with renowned teachers like Lama Alan Wallace, helps individuals enhance their mental clarity, focus, and emotional intelligence. He is the author of A Practical Guide to Mindful Living and teaches across South Wales and online. Read more

Catriona (or Yangchen, as she is affectionately known by the Samadhi community) is known for her warm, wise, and caring presence. A decade ago she embarked on a journey of self-discovery, which began with ditching alcohol - a crutch she once leaned on to manage social anxiety and life’s challenges. Since then, Yangchen has been immersing herself in teachings from various spiritual traditions, including Buddhism.

Yangchen's life has not been without significant challenges, journeying with depression since her mid-teens, intense shyness to more personal struggles, including the loss of loved ones, heart-wrenching traumas, and the complexities of life transitions. She is a dedicated member of the Samadhi community for the teachings of Lama David and the warm and supportive sangha which is developing.

About her session, Yangchen says:

"I want to theme my session around the notion of the divided life, the tension between "soul" (heart, essence, inner me) and the roles I occupy in the manifest world. In particular the effect of this tension on my chronic depression and the role of the three jewels in providing sanctuary. Inspired by Parker Palmer's A Hidden Wholeness."
