The Psychology of Stress & Burnout: A Buddhist Perspective

About this Event

Stress and burnout are everywhere right now. But what’s actually behind them, and how can we have more peace and balance amidst life’s demands?

Join Buddhist teacher David Oromith, who has spent over a decade at the intersection of Buddhist psychology and modern approaches to mental wellbeing, for an honest and practical evening on the inner causes of stress and burnout, and what we can do about them.

Drawing on Buddhist psychology, years working in mental health services, and his own journey through depression, anxiety and burnout, David will explore:

  • why the modern stress cycle is so relentless, and what breaks it
  • the three layers of burnout and how to work with each one
  • simple practices and resets you can use anytime, anywhere
  • how acceptance and self-compassion help you bounce back when things go wrong

David guides with warmth, honesty and humour. There’s no jargon and no pressure to be spiritual or anything other than who you are. We hope to share practical tools grounded in both ancient wisdom and modern understanding.

The evening includes a short guided meditation, talk, and Q&A.

Who’s it for? Anyone feeling overwhelmed, burnt out, or just curious. Whether you’ve never meditated or practise every day, you’re very welcome.

Booking & Donations

There are limited places available for this evening talk. Please book in advance using the form at the bottom of this page.

Suggested donations: £8–£15 in person, £5–£12 online.

We are embracing a sliding scale policy for this event, guided by the Buddhist principle of generosity and inclusivity. There are suggested donations to help cover the cost of putting on these events, including room hires, refreshments, and travel and accommodation costs for the teacher and volunteers. Choosing the higher option includes a donation to support our activities for the benefit of all.

We firmly believe, however, that financial constraints should never be a barrier to participation. If the suggested amount is beyond your means, please choose the lower option or contribute what you can — every offering helps make this event possible for the collective good. Without your honesty and generosity, we wouldn’t be able to make this event happen!

About the Teacher

David Oromith is a Buddhist teacher and meditation guide with over a decade of teaching experience, and a background in mental health services. His journey into Buddhism began at eighteen, through personal struggles with depression and anxiety, an experience that brought him to the Buddha’s teachings and has shaped everything he shares since.

David has studied under various teachers, with Dr. B. Alan Wallace as his primary teacher, and is influenced by Tibetan Buddhism among other traditions. He focuses on meditation training and core, practical Buddhist principles, hoping to make ancient practices applicable to modern life.

He is the author of two books, A Practical Guide to Mindful Living and Calm Mind, Open Heart, and leads retreats across the UK throughout the year, as well as teaching online and in person across South Wales.

Reviews

David Oromith

David is an experienced Buddhist contemplative and meditation guide who has studied and taught internationally for several years. He is the Co-Founder of Samadhi and a qualified mindfulness teacher, Mental Health First Aider, and an active member of the Association for Spiritual Integrity. His teaching style is clear and practical, and his warm and humorous approach makes him a popular mindfulness teacher. In his own practise and teachings, David focusses on the core themes of Early Buddhism and emphasises the practices of Shamatha (meditative quiescence), and its union with Vipassana on the Four Applications of Mindfulness and the Four Immeasurables – which presents a direct path leading to the realisation of our deepest nature and the potentials of consciousness, and closely follows how the Buddha himself attained enlightenment. He considers himself to be the fortunate student of many teachers, including his root lama, Lama Alan Wallace.
